What to Expect After Your First Chiropractic Appointment

Sore back? Tension in your shoulders, spine, or hips? A chiropractic appointment can help to alleviate issues with muscles, joints, soreness, and functionality. If you want to feel like yourself again and don’t want to have to rely on the crutch of painkillers, then a chiropractic appointment can help you.

Chiropractors are trained professionals who have completed five years of university study at an accredited Australian University. Chiropractors also undergo continued professional development to ensure they are meeting the requirements of competency and training.

Our chiropractic practitioners are committed to relieving your pain and helping you live a life that is high quality and without discomfort or worry.

If you have booked your first chiropractic appointment and want to know what to expect, read on. We are here to support you throughout your chiropractic journey, whether you are managing an acute or chronic ongoing issue.

Your First Visit, and What to Expect Afterwards

When coming in to see one of our Chiropractors at Kula Health, you can expect to feel comfort, warmth, and genuine care from our team from the moment you set foot inside our space. We are proud of the holistic healing that we provide and are committed to delivering an exceptional service to our clients from start to finish.

We also have an interactive waiting area so you can stretch and roll out tight muscles on yoga mats, or hang from our rings, before and after your visit!

The initial chiropractic appointment involves:

  • A thorough client history assessment including postural assessment, palpation of soft tissue and joints and a functional movement examination.
  • You may be referred for further investigations such as MRI or X-ray if deemed necessary by your Chiropractor.
  • If safe to do so, your chiropractor will adjust areas of your spine which are not moving correctly.
  • Our Chiropractors use a variety of techniques including manual adjustments, joint mobilisation, trigger point therapy, active muscular release and facial release techniques.
  • Adjustments are selected in order to free up nerve pressure and joint restriction, decreasing tension and tone of the neuromusculoskeletal system.

How Will You Feel After Your Chiropractic Appointment?

“I feel realigned”, “I feel taller”, “I feel light”, “I feel free”.

These are all terms clients use after their Chiropractic adjustments. You will experience a rebalancing of your posture, a reduction in pain and increased range of movement within the joints. There will be less pressure on nerves and less stress on the body, so now your body can heal. To aid the healing process, follow these steps after your chiropractic visit:

  • Drink Plenty of Water.
  • Keep the body moving and move with awareness.
  • Do Your Exercises.
  • Get a good sleep.
  • Follow the Plan.

Feel the Relief

You have been living with pain, potentially for years. It’s common to feel an immense sense of relief and a freeing sense of joy following a chiropractic appointment – this is due to the release which has taken place and the fact that you can now live with less pain.

This is something to be celebrated and will vary from person to person, but suffice to say it’ll make a big difference. Each adjustment improves on the last – as your brain and central nervous system start communicating better, optimum health is restored.

Are There Any Side Effects?

You may feel tired or fatigued after you have an adjustment. This may be due to the release of toxins which have been built up in your body and are being released, as well as a switch from your sympathetic (stress) to your parasympathetic nervous system (rest & repair).

You may experience headache or tenderness in the 24-48 hours after an adjustment, which can be a normal response as the body readjusts, and as inflammation takes time to settle.

If this is the case for you, listen to your body, rest and take it easy after an adjustment to ensure that you are giving your body adequate time to heal. It is vital that you drink plenty of water following your chiropractic adjustment and relax so your body can flush out the toxins.
